Francisco Medina – also called Paco – was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela and was a passionate soccer player for many years but, unfortunately he was not able to excel in this sport as he would have loved, and so he found solace in his collection of multicoloured pencils.
Paco has strengthened his knowledge of painting through a variation of experiences which have helped him mature in his work. He has obtained two University degrees. The first was in Graphic Design at the University of Zulia in Venezuela, where he had the privilege of attending classes taught by Elsy Zavarce, Hilda Bechentritt and Eugenio Marval. He also received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, where he majored in Painting and completed a minor in Sculpture as well. This experience was nourished by the teachings of Susan Scott, Liliana Berezowsky and Francois Morelli. A few years prior to this, he had the chance to attend an art residency in Germany under the mentorship of Sebastian Kruger.
He works mostly with acrylics, oil colours, graphite and – most recently – tiles transformed to pixels.
He has collaborated with various magazines und newspapers in Venezuela and Canada and exhibited in those countries as well as in Germany. Since 2017 he is living and working in Berlin, Germany.
